A SKATEPARK celebrated its reopening with a family fun jam event last weekend.
Braintree Council hosted the Skate Jam event last Saturday at the newly improved Weavers Park in Braintree.
It was one of three parks undergoing an improvement scheme in the area, with the other two being Ramsey Road in Halstead and Spa Road in Witham.
The free Skate Jam included music, skate lessons, talented demonstrations and BMX sessions, as well as competitions for prizes for everyone to get involved in.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, cabinet member for transformation, the environment and customer services at Braintree Council said: “I am thrilled that everyone who came along to the event enjoyed the day.
“It was wonderful that visitors of all ages from very young beginners to more experienced skaters, scooters and riders, all joined in the fun together.
“I would like to thank the sponsors and volunteers who helped to pull this event together to make it a great day for everyone.
“We are very much looking forward to the next Skate Jam at Ramsey Road in Halstead on Saturday 28 September.”
People of all ages came along to soak up the exciting atmosphere, sunshine, and new facilities.
Spectators were also impressed by the skills and tricks the skateboarders, scooters and riders performed, from beginners to the more experienced.
Councillor Lyn Walters, Braintree Council’s Chairman, welcomed everyone to the new park at 2pm, which was followed by a tribute to celebrate the life of Andy Wood, a young keen skateboarder who enjoyed visiting the park.
Bungabled Skateboards offered prizes for competitions for over and under 12s, and Dan from DMP Lighting and Sound provided the stage, expertise, equipment and music.
Residents are looking forward to the next Skate Jam event at the Ramsey Road skatepark on Saturday, September 28.
