A PENSIONER who was killed in a collision on the A120 last month 'veered onto the wrong side of the road' before colliding with an oncoming lorry, an inquest has heard.

Diane Taylor, 74, was pronounced dead by paramedics on Tuesday, August 13, at the scene of a collision near Stock Street, Coggeshall.

The inquest into the death of Mrs Taylor was opened by area coroner for Essex, Michelle Brown, on Thursday.

She said: "[Mrs Taylor] was driving a Mercedes Benz which veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with an HGV travelling in the opposite direction.

"Death was confirmed at 2.45pm.

"Identification was confirmed by her brother-in-law and a provisional cause of death has been given as 1A, multiple traumatic injuries, and 1B, pending toxicology and neuropathology."

The seriousness of the collision was such that the East of England Ambulance Service responded with seven emergency vehicles.

Essex Police's serious collision investigation unit has also investigated the crash, whilst National Highways has launched a public consultation to consider reducing the speed limit on the road to 50mph.

The coroner said it is likely a documentary inquest, which won't require witnesses to give evidence, will take place at a later date.
