A RESTAURANT in Kelvedon has scooped a prestigious award for its spectacular Indian cuisine and customer service.
Kelvedon Spice was chosen as one of the winners in the Best Restaurant category at this year’s national Curry Life Awards on Sunday, at the London Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square.
The curry house frequently impresses diners with its authentic cuisine and exceptional service, along with its menu’s traditional yet unique flair.
Speaking after the ceremony, owner and chef Imran Ahmed said he was “thrilled” with the award.
He said: “I like to create dishes that are different, that you wouldn’t find in other restaurants.
“I learned about cooking from lots of different chefs and got my inspiration from cookery books and research.
“Our customers love to test new dishes before we put them on the menu and many of our diners are excited by the range of dishes on offer.”
Mr Ahmed also works in medical engineering and gained experience in the industry working at his uncle’s restaurant part-time.
Alongside Kelvedon Spice, he is involved in two other restaurants and a takeaway.
He adds new dishes to the restaurant’s menu every six months, with some popular creations including King Asparagus, with grilled king prawns cooked with asparagus, ginger, onions, tomato and a medium-spiced sauce.
Another unusual dish is his Bengali Burrito, described as where Mexico meets Bangladesh and featuring chicken or lamb with rice, tomato, onion and cheese, all wrapped in tortilla.
Another highlight is also the Lamb Sylhety Shatkora with fresh Bangladeshi lime, onion, garlic, tomato and spices.
Mr Ahmed added: "Our success is very much down to the presentation of the food and the fact we use social media and videos to promote the restaurant and widen its appeal to customers.
“We’re very grateful for their support.”
The Curry Life Awards is an annual celebration of British curry houses, which have an annual turnover of over £4 billion.
Over 500 guests attended the event, mainly organised and produced by Curry Life Media Group which runs the only magazine for the UK curry sector by the same name.
Kelvedon Spice is situated at 98 High Street in Kelvedon, Colchester.
