ESSEX Police continue to investigate the murder of a 30-year-old man, after he was ‘severely injured’ during an assault in Chelmsford and sadly died at the scene.
Officers were called to the assault, in Meadgate Avenue, Chelmsford at around 12.30pm on Tuesday 15 October.
A 30-year-old man was found severely injured, and he later died at the scene.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “Three suspects, all men who we believe were trying to conceal their faces, were seen leaving the area shortly after the assault.”
“In the past 24 hours dozens of our officers and police staff have built a timeline of events, reviewed hours of CCTV, conducted house-to-house enquiries in the surrounding streets and carried out checks on phone numbers and vehicles to make the clearest possible picture of the assault and the circumstances surrounding it.
“Officers have been at the scene and patrolling in the area today, with a number of members of the public speaking to our officers on duty.”
Detective Inspector Lydia George, the senior investigating officer, said: “We never forget that our work centres on securing justice for a man who has tragically lost his life.”
“This investigation has proceeded at pace so far, I’d like to thank everyone for their ongoing commitment to arresting these three suspects.
“I am grateful the community in Chelmsford has come together to support the targeted enquiries officers are making today.
“All this work carries on but I would like to reiterate – if you haven’t already spoken to us and you think you know something, it is so important you share it with us.”
Inspector Sam Girdlestone said: “Residents will see a policing presence in the coming hours and days as the investigation progresses."
“Like DI George has said, we want to hear from anyone with any information. We also appreciate this is a difficult time for those living in the area, so we’re here to answer your questions.”
Police ask that anyone with relevant information, or footage, contacts them, quoting incident 469 of Tuesday 15 October.
