Two people have been left trapped in their car following a crash near a busy Essex roundabout.

The incident took place near Braintree on the B1018 at the A120 Galley's Croner roundabout.

According to the AA traffic monitor, traffic is queueing along both roads

Motorists have reported a number of emergency vehicles on scene.

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews were called to Braintree bypass at 2.09pm this afternoon after reports of a collision.

"On arrival, firefighters confirmed it was a collision between a HGV and a car, with two people trapped.

"Crews used specialist equipment to rescue the casualties by 3pm, they were left in the care of the paramedics."

The NHS East of England Ambulance service also attended the scene to assess a number of people.

A spokesman said: "Three ambulances, three Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles, a paramedic car and Essex and Herts Air  Ambulance were called to a road traffic collision on the A120 near Braintree this afternoon.

"Five patients were assessed at the scene and two were transported by road ambulance to Broomfield Hospital for further assessment and care."

Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible and to use alternative routes.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a collision on the A120 near Braintree shortly before 1.30pm on Monday 4 November.

"It was reported to have involved a car and an HGV.

"The incident is ongoing.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

"Please quote incident 556 of 4 November."
