VARIOUS services will be taking place across the district this week to honour the fallen for Remembrance.
Braintree, Witham and other surrounding areas will be holding the events for Remembrance Sunday this weekend.
In Braintree, the main service is set for a 2pm start at the Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens, followed by wreath laying and parade through to St Michael’s Church.
In Witham, the parade will assemble in the Avenue adjacent to the War Memorial at about 2.30pm, before setting off at about 2.45pm to arrive back at the War memorial for the service at 3pm.
The memorial hall will be open before and after the service from about 2pm for tea and coffee.
Parking is available at the Memorial Hall.
A service will also take place in Rivenhall, at St Mary’s and All Saints Church at 10.50am.
In Silver End, the Remembrance Service is being held at Silver End Village Hall.
The service, led by Rev. Malcolm Boulter, will begin at 10.45am and wreaths will be laid at that service.
Prior to the service there will be a parade from the Silver End Scout Headquarters in Silver Street to the Village Hall.
This leaves the headquarters at 10.15am.
Chairman of Braintree Council Lyn Walters said: “As we come together to honour those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom, I proudly join in commemorating Remembrance Day 2024.
“This solemn day serves as a powerful reminder of the courage and selflessness of the men and women who fought in past conflicts, as well as those who continue to serve today.
“Remembrance Day is not only a time to pay tribute to those who gave their lives, but also to reaffirm our commitment to peace and unity.
“It reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy today were hard-earned, and we must never take them for granted.
“Wearing the poppy as a symbol of remembrance, I encourage everyone to take a moment on Sunday to reflect, honour the fallen, and support veterans and their families, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.”
