A YOUNG ‘snooker-loopy’ boy based at a club in Witham has bagged his first trophy at Cuestars under-21s tournament, after recording his highest break in the Plate competition.

Colchester resident and snooker enthusiast, Sam Borgars, aged 9, made his Bronze snooker tour debut in January, finishing third place in a six-man round-robin group in Hampshire.

After only missing out on the ‘main knockout’ by one win, Sam decided to enter a competition for non-qualifiers, Cuestars Under-21 Gold, Silver and Bronze Tours at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

Sam went on to make a personal break of 28 in his last win and reached his first final.

Cuestars spokesman Tim Dunkley said: “We are all delighted for Sam.

“Everyone always remembers their first trophy.

“It’s a massive achievement.”

Sam is based at Stepfield Snooker Club in Witham and is currently ranked ninth out of 34 on the bronze rankings.
