A housebuilder has been donating crisp packets to a town charity to help make survival blankets.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes have been supporting The Witham Hub's initiative to recycle crisp packets into survival blankets for the homeless and vulnerable.

Children volunteering at the charity iron the crisp packets to form the blankets, which are then donated to those in need.

The housebuilder has been donating crisp packets throughout the year.

Tina Townsend, chair of trustees at The Witham Hub, said: "We are delighted to have the support from Barratt and David Wilson Homes and hope we continue to work together in the future on other projects.

"The Witham Hub is always keen to collaborate with local businesses and other organisations to support the community."

Barratt and David Wilson Homes also made a £1,500 donation to The Witham Hub earlier this year, which funded a new defibrillator for The Cherry Tree Pub.

Tom Wright, managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: "We’re delighted to have collected so many crisp packets and it’s fantastic to see The Witham Hub putting them to good use and supporting those in need.

"The charity does a fantastic job in supporting homeless and vulnerable people, but also in its efforts to recycle and this links to our own objectives to increase sustainability."

The Witham Hub aims to promote social inclusion and assist those who are socially excluded to integrate into society.
