A FORMER police station home to three separate buildings could become a commercial business in the future a planning application has revealed.

Newell Properties Development has applied to Braintree District Council in regards to the Police Houses, in London Road, Feering, on November 25.

The site was previously occupied by Essex Police as a police station and up until two month ago was a training centre for the Essex Police K-9 unit.

The developer plans to amend its current use as a sui generis to a Class E property which is suitable for commercial, business, and service.

This change of use is necessary as Essex Police decided to sell the building back in January.

Kemsley LLP has been appointed on behalf of Essex Police to market the former police station.

According to a planning and statement document, changing Police Houses to a commercial, business and service property would prevent it from “falling into disuse and subsequent disrepair”.

Overall, the site covers 2,196sq metres, has two vehicle access points off London Road, and has eighteen parking spaces.

If the application is successful, 19 parking spaces for bicycles would also be created on site.

Historically, the buildings have been “combined and operated as a single unit” and no alterations to the former police station are planned to be carried out.

However, if the application is approved, it may be the case that the police houses are divided back into multiple buildings, “depending on the demands of the market”.

A decision is yet to be made by Braintree District Council.
