Starstuck young patients were in awe as Olly Murs paid a visit to the children’s wards at a hospital.
The X Factor runner up visited Basildon University Hospital last Wednesday ahead of a performance later in the evening at Basildon’s Chicago Rock Cafe.
The visit was kept as a surprise for the young fans on Wagtail and Puffin wards, who were thrilled to get the 25-year-old’s autograph and pose for photographs with him.
The Witham singer showed off some of his trademark dance moves and sang Lola to a very flattered nurse with the same name.
The former call centre worker spent three hours at the hospital.
Sally Brown, Paediatric Matron, said: “The children were over-the-moon to be meeting Olly. He was fantastic, he charmed just about every single person on the wards, and spent time with each patient and their family. Visits like this are so special because they really lift the spirits of our young patients while they are in hospital and feeling unwell.”
After Olly visited all the patients, he said: “I have absolutely loved every minute. The thing about doing something like this is that three or four months ago I wouldn’t have had an affect on these kids. It’s weird how I can make someone’s day now, just by saying hello, signing an autograph or posing for a picture.
“I’m honoured and proud to have been able to come here today and meet all these wonderful kids.”
• Olly will perform at Chicago’s in Braintree next Wednesday.
