One of Essex’s most famous global brands has taken over the cafe at the historic Cressing Temple barns.
Wilkin & Sons, maker of the iconic Tiptree preserves, has been granted a ten-year lease to run a tea room in the Cressing Temple visitor centre.
The traditional Tiptree tea room opened today, serving a selection of light snacks, lunches, cream teas and drinks.
The company has been in business for 130 years and grows much of its own fruit including Little Scarlet - a small strawberry with an intense flavour used in the popular Little Scarlet preserve.
Nicky Goldsack, tea rooms manager at Wilkin & Sons Ltd, said: "We are delighted to have found the perfect location at Cressing Temple for the latest Tiptree tea room.
"Cressing Temple barns offer something unique for the visitors with its fascinating architecture and huge historic significance."
Wilkin & Sons already run Tiptree tea rooms in Dedham, Finchingfield and Heybridge Basin.
Opening hours are 9.30am to 5.00pm seven days a week.
