Matt Paine feels Braintree Town “owe someone a hiding” and feels tomorrow’s home Skrill Premier game against Halifax Town will be the perfect time to set the record straight.

Paine, who played in the centre of Braintree’s defence in their 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Newport on Tuesday due to Alan Massey being out with concussion, is keen to see them get back to winning ways.

The loss in Wales means Braintree have lost their last three games, following Skrill Premier defeats by Luton Town and Alferton Town, so he feels the visit of Halifax could be a big game for them.

He said: “We’ll have a look at it and see what has gone on at Newport.

“We have to assess our performances to see where it went wrong and where we can do better, but we have to move on to Saturday and look to the league again.

“We’ve had a bit of a dip in the league so that makes Saturday a massive one because we need to win it.

“If we can get three points we’ll be back up pushing for the play-offs again.

“We haven’t forgotten how to win and I think we owe someone a hiding this year.

“We haven’t done that yet and hopefully we can bounce back on Saturday.”

Massey is still a doubt for tomorrow’s game as he recovers from his concussion, but Exodus Geohaghon could slot back into the back line after being unavailable for the game at Newport.

Iron skipper Kenny Davis is also hoping that he will be fit to face Halifax Town at the Amlin Stadium (kick-off 3pm).

He was a big doubt to play at Newport after rolling his ankle and having to come off at half-time in their previous game at Alfreton, but Davis said he felt good after playing the full 90 minutes of the cup defeat in Wales.

He said: “To be honest I didn’t think I’d be playing at Newport.

“I obviously did the right things after the game at Alfreton and it came good.

“I can’t imagine it getting much worse now so I should think I’ll be OK for the weekend.”
