Witham Town booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Essex Senior Cup with a 2-1 win against Thurrock.

The hosts had to come from behind to win, though, as Thurrock took the lead in the 62nd minute when a neat move down the left ended with Robert Clark side-footing the ball into the net.

However, Witham lifted the tempo of their play, with the introduction of Shamido Pedulu having an instant impact up front and they were back on level terms after 71 minutes when Brad Stopher headed home from a corner.

And when Tom Wraight was fouled in the area on 85 minutes, he picked himself up to fire home the resulting spot-kick to book his side's place in the last eight.

Witham boss Garry Kimble said: “I think we should have been three up by half-time and it should have been dead and buried, but we showed character to come back after going a goal down.

“You have to take that.

“I rested a couple of players, but a couple of the ones I put out looked a little bit jaded, I thought.

“But the plus was that we went to the 93rd minute.

“To be fair, I think we deserved it in the end."
