Revenge won’t be a big part of Alan Devonshire’s team-talk ahead of Braintree Town’s FA Trophy first round tie against Welling United tomorrow.
It’s less than two months since the Kent club put the brakes on the Iron’s four-game winning run in the Skrill Premier with a smash and grab victory at the Amlin Stadium.
That 3-1 defeat stunned a buoyant Braintree at the time and the Trophy encounter gives them not only a chance to make lucrative progress into the Trophy’s second round but also to set the record straight.
However, boss Devonshire insists he isn’t interested in revenge.
He said: I never make a big thing about revenge.
“I’ll admit that the game against Welling wasn’t our greatest performance and we do have a chance to put it right, but it’s not about revenge.”
What Devonshire will be looking for, though, is a much improved display from his attacking players.
He was left disappointed as they failed to take advantage of all the possession they had in a 2-1 league loss at Aldershot on Tuesday.
“We work hard in training on pass and move tactics, but I didn’t see that in that game,” he said.
“We haven’t really had a cutting edge in the final third since Charlie (Strutton) left.
“We shouldn’t be lacking in confidence because we’re going well in the league, but I was really disappointed with that one.
“I’ll have to pick them up for the Trophy game.”
Matt Paine will return from suspension for the game against Welling.
