THE fine Bank Holiday Monday weather and the excellent condition of the Colne Valley course at the moment attracted a large field for the Men’s and Ladies’ Captain’s Day.
There were 18 ladies playing in Penny Lang’s competition and victory went to Sue Petchey, with 33 points, from Ruth Finch, with 30 in second place, on countback from Sue Earnshaw.
Men’s captain Trevor Jarman’s competition had a field of 58 players and this resulted in a win for Stuart Hurst, with an excellent 40 points, from Matt Holbrook, on 38, and Paul Davies third, with 37.
The second round of Jubilee Cup matches were played in windy conditions on Saturday, which seemed to affect the Colne Valley players more than Crondon Park in the single events.
However, the visitors deserve credit for a fine performance away from home.
Trailing 4½-1½ in the singles, with the one win coming from Stuart Collingridge and the half from Gary Ayling, as the match continued into the pairs competition they turned the match around with wins in all three matches to achieve a 4½-4½ draw.
The men’s section stableford competition was won with 37 points by Graham Marsh, from Matthew Butler, with 35 points, on countback from Daniel Wallace The ladies’ section Peugeot Foursomes competition resulted in a win for Amanda Rollins and Frankie Salmon, with 37 points, from Ruth Finch and Celia Larkham, with 35.
Corinne Burnford and Sue Gilbert were third with 34.
In the seniors’ section there was a win for Malcolm Waite in the monthly medal with a nett score of 71, on countback from seniors captain Pete Blowers, with Geoff Wyatt third, also on 71.
