SILVER End Bowls Club won their first silverware of the season by claiming the indoor trophy for outdoor clubs run by Colchester Indoor Bowls Club.

Silver End last won this in 2011, but have always done particularly well in it, having just missed out on victory in the last few years and were looking to claim the title again as they faced a strong team from Tiptree Jobserve in the final.

The fours team of Dave Bassett, Alan South, Ray Everitt and Andrew Penfold got off to an amazing start and managed to build a good lead by the halfway point, before picking up shots in the latter stage as they ran out 37-10 winners.

In the triples, Barry Wells, Ray Marshall and Steve Dunn played out a very tight game.

It was nip and tuck throughout with both Silver End and Tiptree playing some great shots at important times, however, it was the Silver End who managed to get over the line, coming from two behind to sneak a win by one shot.

The pairing of John Martin and Ryan Mann also got off to a great star,t going 17-5 up, before the Tiptree pair rallied in the second half and made a good comeback.

However, with three ends to go, the Silver End duo picked up a count of five and followed that with a two to win 24-11.

So the overall score was a resounding 3-0 in rinks and a shot score of 77-36 with a great performance from the Silver End team.
