FORMER Colchester United striker John Akinde has signed for National League new boys Braintree Town.
The experienced forward, who was released by the U's at the end of last season, has linked up with the Iron ahead of the new 2024-25 season.
Akinde had been on the hunt for a new club after leaving Colchester, following the expiry of his contract.

The 35-year-old former Barnet and Lincoln City man spent two-and-a-half years at the U's.
Last month, U’s boss Danny Cowley said he had received plenty of calls from clubs interested in signing the forward, this summer.

Akinde has made more than 600 league and cup appearances in his career to date, was one of four first-team players to be released by Colchester, in May.
The powerful striker has played for the likes of Barnet, Lincoln City and Gillingham during his long career.

He links up with fellow former Colchester players Ryan Clampin, Chay Cooper and Marley Marshall Miranda at the Iron, along with former U's players and Braintree management duo, Angelo Harrop and John White.
